Dr. Guzder is a professor (admin) of psychiatry at the University of British Columbia (UBC), co-director of UBC’s Social and Cultural Psychiatry Program, and adjunct professor in the psychology department at the University of Victoria. Although retired from McGill University, she continues teaching in the divisions of Child Psychiatry and Social and Cultural Psychiatry there. She also practises family therapy and psychoanalysis in both Victoria and Montréal.

As a visual artist, she has exhibited nationally and internationally. She teaches an “art and healing” course at McGill and was a training supervisor for art therapists in Montréal for 25 years. She interned at Childhood Disorders Day Hospital, a family therapy-based service for complex care of children aged 5–12 years, and did an art residency with Museo della Menta in Roma, Italy, in 2017.

Dr. Guzder is currently working as a trainer for the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees. Earlier she was a community psychiatrist with Indigenous Child and Youth Mental Health.

Her training was at McGill, where she was a senior psychiatric consultant at Jewish General Hospital with roles as head of child psychiatry, director of Childhood Disorders Day Hospital, and the  founding clinical director of Montréal’s first Cultural Consultation Services for refugees and immigrants. She has worked as a consultant for research, teaching, and  global health projects in Jamaica, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and India. She is a mother and a third-generation South Asian settler on Vancouver Island, where her maternal grandfather arrived from India in 1906.
